Parade Banners for Schools

Having your high school march in local parades behind a couple big banners is a good way to advertise your school and its music program. One might think that just having the kids march with their uniforms on would be enough of an advertisement in itself. However, banners act as a focal point for those watching the parade. They may also have on them the name and location of the school. It would be hard to see that from the uniforms.
Importance of Banners
Aside from the reasons already mentioned, banners are important for other reasons. They can show the audience of the parade how official and well-presented the marching band is. The music helps to establish the strength of the school's program, but the banner visually shows the people at the parade that the school is a real and successful establishment.
Schools
Traditionally, high school bands are the ones that would use banners in their marching routines – both in parades as well as on the football field. Therefore, they tend to get more use out of the banners than another school or program might. But elementary and middle school groups can use them as well. There is no real need to have banners only for music programs either. Any kind of club, sports program or educational group can implement the marching with banners strategy to put a brief spotlight on their members and their group theme.
Kind of Banners
Parade banners ought to be very formal in order to give the most respect to the program that is being advertised. Goofy school banners should be saved for homecoming and other events that are not put on display for the general public. The banners in the parade should include the name of the school, the program, and perhaps some sort of group identification (i.e. class year). In addition, using a set color theme would also serve to enhance the event.
Next time your group catches wind of a holiday parade being organized, feel free to jump on board. But before you do, you will want to purchase a banner or two that will show everyone you mean business.
